love & gratitude, even on one of my least favorite holidays

i really have won the friend lottery.

through heartbreak and tragedy and grief, my friends stand by me.  through joys and celebrations and happiness, my friends stand by me. and yet, it never ceases to amaze me how incredible my friends are, and how lucky i am to have them in my world.

so today, on valentines day (of which i am not a fan), i was downright giddy opening my mailbox, at the sight of an envelope.  it was from a friend that lives far away.  and yet i feel her with me, more so recently than ever before.  we are kindred spirits in many ways, one of which is the way we view the importance and meaning of true friendship.

i am grateful for the simple, yet powerful, reminder of my good friend fortune.  plus, it made me – the anti-cupid – squeal with delight because of a note wrapped in red that arrived on february 14.  SHIT.  that’s a miracle.  kind of like winning the lottery.
